Prepare your company so that in three years' time you still have people with the competences you need

A company develops lastingly and an organisation changes when active, strategic people development is lived. Digitalisation, new technologies, rapidly changing markets and trends in products and services, new regulations and internationalisation: there are many reasons why companies change quickly, and sometimes have to.

Managers have to take their people along on that path and involve them in these developments. A core task of business steering is to make sure that, in the medium and long term, the company has people with the necessary competences available and deployable in the required positions at the right time. Only with well trained employees can you meet competition and rapid change successfully.

Even so: without knowing which competences your people will need in the coming years, there is no point organising people development measures for them. Strategic fit is indispensable for successful, long term people development.

What should your company look like in the medium to long term? Which competences do you need to implement your strategy and reach your goals?

You may be working towards further growth and need more managers in the medium term, so that you want to develop employees for those positions. Or you plan to establish digital business models in the market in two years and need digital competences among your people for that. Or you want to sell your products internationally and need appropriate competences in your sales team for the respective target markets.

Your goal is clear: you want to set your company up for the future, and you achieve that with the right competences among your employees.

The particular competences and expertise you need for your company make it ever more demanding to find people on the skilled labour market who bring exactly what you need today or in the medium term. Schools and universities are training people less and less specifically for companies. Often the basics you need to bring new employees up to speed quickly are already missing. That is why many companies are increasingly expanding their own competence and training centres. The skill set and mindset your company needs, you have to develop yourself together with your people.

For that you need

  1. a clear overview of the competences already present in the company,
  2. clarity about the competences of the future, and
  3. a modern, dynamic people development concept.

This triad provides not only knowledge and competences in your company in the short term. Above all it provides the robustness needed in the long term and therefore the future viability of your business.
